The Ballad of Spanky's Run
Spanky sat in his prison cell rotten
Getting near thirty and all but forgotten
And he thought if I don't cut loose I'm gonna explode
Judges told Spanky he had the devil inside him
Spanky agreed but he was tired of fightin'
And he thought, if I could get loose and find some place to lighten my load
Spanky still rides with his flask at his side
You know I'll tell you the truth
As I grow old the story is still told about the day that ole Spanky cut loose.
He tried once or twice with a file from the shop
And he vaulted the gate with a hand of a mop
The stench from the pit meant the dog always picks up the scent
The fire inside him kept burnin' and pryin'
Spent most of his nights doubled over and cryin'
And he had to be free and it did not much care where he went
Spanky still rides with his flask at his side
You know I'll tell you the truth
As I grow old the story is still told about the day ole Spanky cut loose
Well one night the burning got hotter than hell
And ole Spanky ran faster than a bullet as it fell
They say that ole boy hit them woods like a man straight possessed
Since that day ole Spanky ain't hardly been seen
Most think he went west wiped his record right clean
Well I bet he walks lighter since he wiped his hands of that mess
Well Spanky still rides with his flask at his side
You know I'll tell you the truth
As I grow old the story is still told about the day that ole Spanky cut loose
The day that ole Spanky cut loose
The day that ole Spanky cut loose
